NBC Sports Digital is launching Playmaker Media, a technology service that provides “end-to-end support" for partners that are looking to deliver live and on-demand streams.

The International Olympic Committee is Playmaker Media’s first client, with Playmaker on board to provide live streaming video support for the IOC’s Olympic Channel, which is expected to launch later this year. Corporate cousin NBC News will tap Playmaker Media’s platform to live stream coverage of the 2016 presidential election.

At launch, Playmaker said it’s working with companies that include Adobe, Akamai, Microsoft, iStreamPlanet (now part of Turner), and Comcast Wholesale, which recently introduced theVideoPlatform, a unified system for the distribution of broadcast and digital video to multiple screens.

NBC Sports Digital said the new video tech unit is entering view amid more than a decade of live streaming sporting events, including past Summer and Winter Olympics, NBC’s Sunday Night Football franchise, the Stanley Cup Finals, the English Premiere League, the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Notre Dame football, and the Triple Crown.

“The growing emand for live streaming support in the marketplace combined with our experience and expertise make this the perfect time to launch Playmaker,” Rick Cordella, SVP and GM, Digital Media, NBC Sports Group, said in a statement. “Whether it is live streaming the biggest sporting events in the world or hosting on-demand video clips or live-event replays, our clients can expect best-in-class service that will provide their viewers with an enjoyable and seamless streaming experience.”
