NBCSN Skates with Epix on 'Road to NHL Winter Classic' on New Year's Eve

Team on Promo Push for NBC's Jan. 1 Telecast of Capitals-Blackhawks 12/29/2014 2:30 PM Eastern

Epix and NBC Sports Network will be on the same line on New Year’s Eve, serving up an extended, primetime lead-in for the NHL Winter Classic on NBC the following day.

 

The premium service and the cable service, the puck sport’s national cable home, will air the first three installments of docuseries Epix Presents Road to the NHL Winter Classic from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. (ET/PT) on Dec. 31.

 

Produced by 52-time Emmy Award winner Ross Greenburg, the series provides viewers a look at the Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals in their professional and personal settings, ahead of their meeting at Nationals Park in the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic on New Year’s Day, which faces off on NBC at 1 p.m. (ET).

 

The airing on NBCSN continues to broaden the accessibility for the series, which in years past has been the province of HBO. This season, Road to the NHL Winter Classic bowed on Dec. 16 on Epix, as well as on NHL.comEPIX.com and a host of other digital platforms and devices, to authenticated and non-verified viewers alike.  New episodes premiere each week on Epix every Tuesday at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), through Jan. 6, with that installment including footage and other content from the Jan. 1 game.

 

“Our goal has been to expose this compelling content to the broadest audience possible, and by collaborating with NBC Sports for this New Year’s Eve marathon we will expand the audience even wider, reaching out to their viewers with this special programming block as we head into the live game on NBC, final episode on Epix, January 6 and the premiere of our next series Epix Presents Road to the NHL Stadium Series February 3,” said Ross Bernard, senior vice president of programming at Epix.
