OWN's Lance Armstrong Special Draws 3.2 Million Viewers

Oprah Winfrey Interview Second-Most Watched Show for OWN 1/18/2013 10:17 AM Eastern

Oprah Winfrey’s much ballyhooed exclusive interview with disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong on OWN last night drew 3.2 million viewers, according to Nielsen data.

The interview, in which Armstrong admitted that he took performance-enhancing drugs during his run of seven Tour De France wins in the mid 2000s, also drew an additional 1.1 million viewers during a second airing at 10:30.

The interview failed to beat out OWN’s previous high of 3.5 million viewers generated by Winfrey’s March 11 interview with Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina and family, but marked the highest weekday telecast in OWN history across all key demos, according to network officials.

In fact, the Armstrong interview that aired on Jan. 17 from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. (ET/PT) ranked as the top show in cable for the night among women 25 to 54 (2.1 rating against the demo), females 18 to 49 (1.9) and adults 25 to 54 (1.99). OWN was cable's top performer in Thursday primetime overall among women 25 to 54 (1.3), females 18 to 49 (1.17) and adults 25 to 54 (1.2).

The interview generated over 600,000 online streams from users in 190 countries, according to OWN officials

OWN will premiere part two of Winfrey's interview with Armstrong tonight (Jan. 18).
