Performers in cable movies and series copped 18 of 40 nominations for awards by the Screen Actors Guild, announced in Hollywood Tuesday, including a sweep of the nominations for best female performance by an actress in a movie or miniseries.
ESPN, new to original-film programming, scored a nomination for Barry Pepper for 3, its original biopic on National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing driver Dale Earnhardt.
Home Box Office scored the most nods, with 10, followed by Turner Network Television with three, Showtime with two and FX, ESPN and USA Network with one each.
Among the men in TV films, cable has a four-in-five chance at a statuette for one of its performers. Nominees include Pepper, Geoffrey Rush for HBO's The Life and Death of Peter Sellers,Jamie Foxx as gang leader Tookie Williams in Showtime's Redemption and William H. Macy in TNT's The Wool Hat.
Sex and the City,late of HBO, will have a chance at the SAG awards for star Sarah Jessica Parker and its ensemble cast.
The awards will be telecast on TNT Feb. 5.
