Sometimes, seeing red can be a good thing.

Court TV senior vice president of programming Darren Campo hit on the idea for a new kind of non-fiction lineup dubbed “Court TV R.E.D. (Real. Exciting. Dramatic.).” The action-oriented block, which includes over 150 hours of new series, helped the network jump from No. 19 in 2006 to No. 11 for adults 18-49 and to No. 10 for adults 25-54 among all ad-supported cable networks for the first quarter of 2007, which was also the most watched quarter in the network’s 15-year history.

“2007 is a pivotal year for Court TV as we work to complement our successful programming initiatives with a rebranding effort that best communicates the evolution of the network,” Campo said. “My goal is to create programming opportunities that secure Court TV as a great entertainment destination.”

Since joining Court TV in 1999, Campo has spearheaded its transition to an all-original primetime lineup. He also oversaw the launch of its first broadband channel, courttvred.com.

Previously, Campo worked in CBS’s television network research department and for the CBS Television Stations Group. So how does cable differ from broadcast? “Broadcast remains hit driven,” Campo said. “Cable is strategy driven.”
