SNY Celebrates UConn's Dual Championships

Storrs, Connecticut is once again the center of the college basketball world and SNY is on the scene.

With the UConn women’s and men’s team winning national titles on Tuesday and Monday, the regional sports network is providing coverage from the Storrs campus and beyond. Following up their feat in 2004, the UConn teams’ triumphs marked the second and only times in NCAA history that one school netted the historic basketball double.

SNY, which presented similar celebratory coverage last year with the women's championship rout of Louisville, aired last night's post-game press conference with Geno Auriemma’s team, which won the school’s second straight and record ninth women’s NCAA crown by topping Notre Dame 79-58 in college basketball’s first ever battle of unbeatens in a title tilt.

The RSN, which is in the middle of a four-year, $4.55 million deal,as the regional rights-holder to the women’s program, will air the distaff squad’s on-campus celebration at 4 p.m. (subject to plane arrival from Nashville). Gary Apple will host the coverage from SNY’s main studio, with Kerith Burke and Meghan Culmo on the scene for 1-on-1 interviews.

The network will also premiere UConn Women’s Basketball Season in Review on Friday April 11 at 7 p.m. and a marathon of Geno’s Legacy on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

As for the men, which earned the program’s fourth title and the first under coach Kevin Ollie with their 60-54 victory over Kentucky on April 7 from AT&T Stadium in Arlington Stadium, SNY covered the post-game press conference on Monday night.

Underdogs 4 The Ages will tip off on April 10 at 4:30 p.m., followed by an encore on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

It has also presented interviews with Ollie and the tournament’s most outstanding player, senior point guard Shabazz Napier.

SNY will culminate its UConn presentation, with coverage from the dual parade that will roll on Sunday at  4p.m., with highlights on SportsNite that night.
