Stars Sign Up for MTV Asia Aid

MTV: Music Television will hold the MTV Asia Aid benefit concert Feb. 3 at the IMPACT Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, the network said Wednesday.

The concert will air on all MTV Networks channels worldwide, reaching a potential audience of more than 1 billion people. MTV Asia Aid will premiere on MTV2 in the United States Feb. 3 at 9 a.m. (EST) and on MTV U.K. & Ireland at 3 p.m. (GMT).

MTVN is also making MTV Asia Aid available rights-free and cost-free to all broadcasters globally in order to maximize distribution and help generate as many donations as possible for primary recipient UNICEF.

Good Charlotte, Kelly Clarkson, Hoobastank and Simple Plan will perform live, along with top artists from Asia.

Jennifer Lopez will contribute a prerecorded performance, and Sting, 50 Cent, Ricky Martin, Nelly, Green Day, Moby and Ronan Keating will offer specially taped messages of support.

"We wanted to take our relief efforts directly to Southeast Asia through MTV's Asia Aid benefit,” MTVN International president Bill Roedy said in a prepared statement. “The response so far has been overwhelming, and the event will bring together diverse artists from across the globe to offer hope and inspiration.”

MTVN Asia Pacific president Frank Brown added, “This global music event is taking place in Thailand, home to a rich and vibrant music culture, and it will provide the perfect venue from which to launch the worldwide initiative.”
