Stern Spikes E!, May Go to Spike6/22/2005 10:46 AM Eastern
E! Entertainment Television has dropped out of the bidding to retain rights to The Howard Stern Show, UPI reported Wednesday, adding that Spike TV is a likely bidder for the morning radio show’s video iteration.
The last episode of Stern’s program, an 11-year E! staple, is set to tape July 1 and air July 8 on the network, UPI said, citing a report in Variety.
Stern’s contract was set to lapse at the end of June and E! was initially interested in renewing, UPI reported. However, E! reportedly decided to drop it, and Stern began negotiating with Spike.
If it occurs, it would be Stern’s second planned change of venue — he will leave his broadcast radio show, syndicated nationally by Infinity Broacasting Corp., for Sirius Satellite Radio and year-end. And it will continue his relationship with Viacom Inc., owner of both Infinity and Spike TV.
