SUR Peru Premieres Programming

SUR Peru, the TV
channel aimed at Peruvians in the U.S., is gearing up
for the May 23rd debut of El Show de los
Sueños
. The America TV production is hosted by Peru's celebrity
host Gisela Valcárcel, known among Peruvian fans as "La señito."

The
weekly reality show is based on a Grupo Televisa format and follows celebrities
taking part in a dancing and singing contest among members of a family. The
show will premiere simultaneously in Peru and in the U.S. and is
expected to run for 32 weeks.

The
upcoming debut of El Show de los Sueños comes
on the heels of the April 20 U.S. premiere of Al fondo hay sitio (There is Room at the Back), a miniseries that posted
record-breaking ratings in its native Peru. According to
local ratings, Al fondo was the top-rated
show in Peru in April 2009.

Al fondo is directed and produced by Efrain Aguilar, the longtime producer of
evening novela Asà es la vida.

All
these shows are targeted to the estimated 600,000 Peruvians living in the U.S., said SUR Peru
programming director Mónica Brown, who can now find their favorite programs
from back home on satellite and cable systems nationwide.

SUR Peru, which
first launched on DirecTV in 2005, has now joined several cable systems, including
Comcast in Boston and Miami and Time
Warner Cable in Los Angeles. "Slowly but
surely, we are increasing our presence on cable," said Brown.

SUR Peru is also set to launch several miniseries in the U.S., among them some of
the most popular ones hailing mostly from Peruvian-based station Frecuencia
Latina. The first series is expected to kick off June 8.
