TiVo Taps Ted Malone to Lead Consumer Business

Former Ericsson and Microsoft exec joins TiVo amid recent departure of chief marketing officer Ira Bahr 9/07/2017 12:54 PM Eastern

TiVo confirmed that Ira Bahr, its former chief marketing officer, left the company recently, and that Ted Malone has joined TiVo to head up its consumer business.

Per his LinkedIn profile, Malone joined TiVo last month after heading the Ericsson’s IPTV portfolio (Mediaroom and cloud TV). Malone is also late of Microsoft, where he was the principal product planning lead for IPTV platforms, and also headed up TV products for the Xbox platform. Microsoft sold its Mediaroom unit to Ericsson in the fall of 2013.

Bahr joined TiVo in 2014 as chief marketing officer and GM of retail products. Bahr is also late of Dish Network, where he oversaw the product planning and marketing for  products such as the “Hopper” whole-home DVR/

Per Bahr’s LinkedIn profile, he has joined AliveCor Inc. as chief commercial officer. AliveCor has developed FDA-cleared machine learning techniques and products that support proactive heart care.

Bahr’s departure is one among other significant personnel changes that have occurred or are underway TiVo following the closure of its merger with Rovi about a year ago.

TiVo’s current present and CEO, Tom Carson, announced in May that he was retiring. A search for his replacement is underway.

Last month, Margret Schmidt, TiVo’s long-time chief design officer and VP of product development, used Twitter to announce that she was leaving the company and subsequently closed her Twitter account.

Personnel changes and other results tied to the merger have raised questions among industry watchers about TiVo’s future commitment to the retail market.

TiVo once used the CEDIA show, underway this week in San Diego, to trot out new products aimed at videophiles. The company confirmed that it is not exhibiting at CEDIA this year, but is maintaining an off-site private suite for meetings with customers and partners.
