TV Land Greenlights George Lopez Series

TV Land has greenlit a new comedy series starring comedian/actor George Lopez, the network said Tuesday.

The 12-episode, single-camera series will follow Lopez as he struggles with his celebrity status, which has left him too rich to go back to his working class, Latino roots and too “brown" to feel comfortable in his affluent celebrity life, according to TV Land officials.

John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky (Silicon Valley,King Of The Hill) will write and executive produce the series, according to TV Land.

“We are excited to produce a series around iconic comedian George Lopez that reveals him in a hilarious, yet brutally honest way” says Keith Cox, Executive Vice President of Development and Original Programming. “George is constantly reinventing himself and as TV Land continues its evolution, we can’t wait to tell his story from a fresh, innovative perspective.”

The series marks Lopez’s return to television after a stint on FX with Saint George, which was not renewed after a 10-episode run

The announcement comes one day after TV Land cancelled another comedy series, The Execs, after four seasons, according to reports. The network also announced late last month that it will end comedy series The Soul Man after its fifth season.
