Verizon's VOD ‘Marathon’ Returns for Fall Run

Verizon FiOS TV is getting the jump on the fall TV season and giving customers a chance to binge on shows and get a taste of recent hit movies with the return of a free video-on-demand “Marathon”  that runs through Sunday, Sept. 22.

Following up on a similar VOD event conducted by Verizon in May, the telco's latest VOD-fest fest will feature a “Free Marathon” folder on the guide’s on-demand menu to spotlight more than 2,000 movies, including hits such as The Hunger Games and Skyfall, and 50 full and catch-up seasons from more than a dozen networks, including ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, HBO, Showtime, Starz, Discovery Network and Food Network.

Verizon is also offering on-demand access to 34 premiere episodes from series such as Last Man Standing, How I Met Your Mother, and New Girl,  the day after their live TV debut. During the fall season,

Verizon’s VOD platform will also present, on a rolling basis, four of the five most recent episodes of TV series as the season progresses.

Verizon’s free VOD Marathon during the Memorial Day weekend in May aimed to boost overall VOD usage, reduce churn, and also nudge customers to buy more paid, transactional on-demand fare later on.

Verizon’s isn’t the only major U.S. pay-TV to unleash a fall VOD promotion.

Comcast’s Xfinity Fall TV Fest, the follow up to its Xfinity Wathchathon Week in March, kicked off September 10 and runs through September 22.

Cox Communications’ Fall FreeView On Demand promo is providing access to more than 500 episodes from over 50 shows and two dozen premium, broadcast and cable networks through September 29.
