Weather Channel Draws Big Ratings with Coverage of Winter Storm PaxNet Notches 7th-Biggest Audience Since 2013, Best Total-Day Delivery with Adults 25-54 Since DirecTV Blackout 2/14/2014 2:43 PM Eastern
The powerful storm that smacked the southeastern and northeastern parts of the country drew plenty of viewers to The Weather Channel.
With its coverage of Winter Storm Pax, The Weather Channel averaged 419,000 viewers and reached 17.7 million watchers on Feb. 12, according to Nielsen data, 13% higher than the reach for Winter Storm Leon.
The average audience was the network’s seventh-highest since Jan. 1, 2013, despite the absence of 20 million DirecTV subs. The Weather Channel has been dark on the DBS leader’s air since late on Jan. 13, as the parties remain disconnected in a carriage dispute.
The Weather Channel averaged 141,000 adults 25 to 54 on Wednesday, its highest total-day delivery post the DirecTV blackout. The network reached 5.98 million in the demo, topping Winter Storm Leon’s reach by 23%.
