World Poker Tour Players Get Sponsored

Travel Channel viewers will soon see ads for online casinos featured on clothes worn by contestants in the network’s World Poker Tour program.

Program producer WPT Enterprises and Travel Channel said Thursday that they reached an agreement which will allow players to wear sponsor logos measuring a maximum of six square inches.

The Department of Justice had been pressuring networks to ban any on-air advertising for online gambling sites such as PartyPoker.com, which are illegal in the United States, a spokeswoman for WPT said. But the gambling companies will be allowed to advertise companion Web sites which don’t require players to gamble real money, such as PartyPoker.net, the spokeswoman said.
