YipTV Plugs Into Akamai

YipTV said has hooked into with Akamai’s cloud-based platform to deliver an OTT service that features more than 100 "channels," including 18 live TV streams.

Launched in May 2015, YipTV’s no-contract, $14.99 per month service focused on Spanish-language video services is offered on several platforms, including iOS and Android mobile devices, select smart TVs, Web browsers, Apple TV boxes and via the Google Chromecast streaming adapter.

YipTV CIO Giancarlo Paolillo said Akamai’s platform has enabled the OTT service to reduce lag time by acquiring digital signals of the live TV channels it offers close to their origination points while also tapping into analytics that help YipTV monitor audience behaviors and keep video quality in check.

“Subscribers today expect a flawless viewing experience and instant access to high-definition video content on any screen,” said John Bishop, CTO, media, at Akamai, in a statement.  “Delivering OTT video and other content must be seamless, fast and scalable.  Our Media Delivery Solutions are designed to help services like YipTV engage their subscribers by delivering content at the highest possible quality wherever and whenever users want and, further, to scale with the growth and complexity of different types of connected devices.”
