Arris DOCSIS 3.1 Retail Modem to Sell for $199.99

Arris is expected to make a formal announcement week about the retail availability of the SB8200, its first DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem, as early as this week, but some additional details have already surfaced.

According to this Arris web page spotted by a reader, the product will sell for $199.99, with an expected release date of Jan. 30, 2017. While that appears to be the price set for the SB8200 via Arris’s own, it’s likely to also carry that price at other retail outlets that will soon carry the product.

Arris recently pushed back the retail debut of the SB8200 to sometime in “early 2017,” and info about that product have been trickling out for weeks.

Last week, for example, packaging for the SB8200 indicated that brands for Xfinity (Comcast) and Cox Communications will appear on the box. Cox is expected to announce its D3.1 rollout plans soon; Comcast has been expanding its DOCSIS 3.1 trials. Other operators, including RCN, Mediacom Communications and WideOpenWest, have also been aggressive with gigabit service strategies that center on DOCSIS 3.1. The first wave of D3.1 modems are hybrids that can work on DOCSIS 3.0 and DOCSIS 3.1 networks.

Cox and Comcast have also given the green light to Netgear’s first DOCSIS 3.1 device, the CM1000, which is selling for $179.99.

At CES earlier this month, Linksys said it plans to launch a DOCSIS 3.1 modem, the CM3132, by April with an MSRP of $199.99.
