AT&T Signs Mark Wahlberg for Ad Campaign

AT&T said it has signed actor and entertainer Mark Wahlberg to appear in an ad campaign that will tout the company’s multiscreen video service capabilities.

Under the exclusive deal, the ad campaign is scheduled launch in April, with Wahlberg said to appear in a series of TV and digital ads “celebrating the ways AT&T lets you take your entertainment everywhere you go.”

The deal comes more than three months after the debut DirecTV Now, AT&T’s OTT TV service. AT&T also offers pay TV and multiscreen offerings through DirecTV’s satellite TV service and U-verse TV, its IPTV platform.

Wahlberg and AT&T are scheduled to start production this week, the company said.

The deal Wahlberg follows a recent agreement between AT&T and Taylor Swift on an exclusive VOD service called Taylor Swift NOW, and an ad-supported VOD channel with Reese Witherspoon, called Hello Sunshine, that also involves Otter Media (the AT&T/The Chernin  Group OTT joint venture) that will that debut later this year for customers of  DirecTV and DirecTV Now.

Actor Rob Lowe was featured in a series of popular DirecTV ads prior to the satellite TV giant's merger with AT&T.
