Former Cox Exec Joe Rooney Joins Layer3 TV

Layer3 TV announced Tuesday that industry vet Joe Rooney has been named chief marketing officer, and will oversee the  customer acquisition and marketing strategy of the Denver-based next-gen MVPD.

Rooney was formerly the chief marketing officer of Cox Communications and also served as SVP of brand marketing, social media and advertising at the MSO before entering what became a somewhat brief retirement from the cable industry.

Rooney, who was with Cox for nearly 30 years, will be based at Layer3 TV’s Denver headquarters. He comes on board as the Company looks to gain subscriber traction in a handful of markets, including Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles, Longmont, Colo.; and Washington, D.C.

“Joe has a long track record of innovating in the cable industry,” Layer3 TV CEO Jeff Binder, said in a statement. “His success with customer acquisition, marketing sciences and brand development is second to none.  Joe’s proven experience in bringing new cable products to market is invaluable to our organization.”

Rooney is a Cable TV Pioneer, elected to the 2010 class, was the 2004 recipient of the NCTA Vanguard Award for Marketing, and serves as the event co-chair of Adaptive Spirit (previously known as SkiTAM), the leading fundraising event for the US Paralympic Ski and Snowboard Team. He is also on the advisory board for Stay-Focused, a SCUBA diving and self-discovery mentoring program for mobility challenged teens.
