Liberty Global, Devicescape Make a WiFi Connection

Devicescape said Liberty Global has agreed to deploy the vendor’s public WiFi software platform across the MSO’s European mobile footprint.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but the technology will enable Liberty Global’s subscribers in Europe to automatically connect to WiFi hotspots on Devicescape’s “Curated Virtual Network” of amenity access points.

The CVN, the vendor said, will give Liberty Global a complement to its cellular offering. The deal also builds on an earlier one established by Virgin Media, the U.K. MSO acquired by Liberty Global in 2013, and Devicescape in February 2014.

“Wi-Fi is essential to our mobile strategy, boosting coverage and capacity — particularly indoors — while driving economic efficiencies which we can pass on to our customers,” said Graeme Oxby, managing director, European Mobile Operations, at Liberty Global, in a statement. “By combining Wi-Fi and cellular as we are able to with the Devicescape solution, we are also delivering a significant improvement to the customer experience.”
