RCN Corp. said it has launched a DOCSIS 3.1-based 1 Gbps (downstream) residential service in Boston starting at $69.99 per month.
RCN, which competes with Comcast in the market, said its 1-Gig offering there is offered without a contract.

RCN has also launched D3.1 in Chicago; Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley, Pa.; New York City, and Washington, D.C. It's been pairing its uncapped 1-Gig downstream service with an upstream that maxes out at 20 Mbps.
