RobRoy Joins Sprint as Chief Digital Officer

Former Comcast exec Rob Roy had joined Sprint as chief digital officer after a legal spat over a non-compete clause had been settled.

Law360 reported in June that Comcast had filed a suit against Roy alleging that he breached a non-complete clause by leaving the MSO, where he was serving as VP for digital revenue, to join Sprint. Comcast feared that there was a “significant likelihood, or substantial threat, that he will disclose highly confidential information and trade secrets, which will cause harm to Comcast,” Law360 said, citing the complaint.  A report in September held that Sprint and Comcast were finalizing a settlement, and Sprint told The Wall Street Journalthat the issue was indeed resolved.

In this new role at Sprint, Roy is tasked with advancing and helping to streamline the company’s use of online and mobile technology to improve the customer experience. Roy reports to Kevin Crull, Sprint’s president of omnichannel sales.

“I’m excited to help drive Sprint’s transformation,” Roy said in a statement. “Today’s consumer demands a seamless experience across retail, web-based and mobile platforms, and Sprint has the resources and commitment to deliver a world-class customer experience.”

At Comcast, Roy helped to lead up product development and sales across all digital channels. Before that, he led e-commerce, self-service and digital marketing Time Warner Cable, which is now part of Charter Communications.

Roy has a bachelor’s degree from James Madison University.
