SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2013: Mediacom, Metaswitch Get Down to Business

Mediacom Communications will tack on new layers of security and quality to its business voice network with the deployment of the Metaswitch Networks Perimeta Session Border Controller.

As a software-centric SBC built to operate on standard commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware, Perimeta is the first session border controller architected for network functions virtualization (NFV), the vendor said. With flexible options for integrated or distributed signaling and media deployments, Perimeta can scale these distinct components independently, dramatically reducing deployment costs.

“We are continually increasing the functionality of our IP voice services, so we need flexible session border controllers that can scale to our needs,” said Michael Sobotor, director, IP development at Mediacom, in a statement. “We chose Perimeta because it secures our rapidly increasing signalling and media traffic independently, so we never have stranded SIP processing capacity. Plus the fully integrated MetaView Service Assurance Server provides operational control over every connection point across our voice network including the Perimeta Session Border Controller.”

“We are seeing strong demand from cable operators for the SBC flexibility, management and scale needed to support new IP services, and also to replace legacy investments that no longer perform,” added Bryan Weeks, vice president of sales for Metaswitch.
