TWC's Wi-Fi App Opens A Request Line

Time Warner Cable has updated its Wi-Fi Finder app for iOS and Android devices that allows users to suggest where the MSO should install hot spots in the future.

The “Request a Hotspot” is one of several new features added to a new version of the app, which has also been updated to help cable modem subs find one of the more than 200,000 hotspots operated by TWC and other members of a “CableWiFi” roaming alliance that also includes Bright House Networks, Comcast, Cablevision Systems, and Cox Communications.

“In addition to improved search functionality, users will now receive notifications whenever new access is added within their area,”  TWC’s Chris Monfette noted Monday in a blog post detailing the updates. “CableWiFi hotspots will show up as quickly as they’re added, guaranteeing our customers the most up-to-date view of the WiFi landscape.”

Last week, Cox and TWC completed an integration that enables broadband customers from each MSO to secure authenticated access to another 1,487 Wi-Fi hotspot locations in Northern Virgnia and Connecticut.

The current CableWiFi roaming network also reaches into parts of Chicago; Philadelphia; Atlanta; Baltimore; Boston; Washington D.C.; San Francisco; Orlando; Tampa; New York City; Los Angeles; Kansas City; Austin; Charlotte; and Hawaii.
