Tribune Donates $100K to Harvey Relief Fund

Stations have raised more than $400K separately for hurricane relief organizations 9/01/2017 12:51 PM Eastern

The Tribune Media Company Charitable Foundation said it will donate $100,000 to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation.  The donation will assist relief efforts in Houston and the surrounding area following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.

The TV industry has contributed millions of dollars in cash and in-kind services to help victims of Hurrican Harvey, which first made land fall in Southern Texas on Aug. 25, dumping more than 50 inches of rain on parts of the area, causing widespread flooding and devastation. At last count, more than 40 people lost their lives as a result of the storm, a figure that is expected to grow as flood waters recede.

In addition to the donation, Tribune Broadcasting’s TV stations across the country have organized relief efforts in their local markets, raising nearly $400,000 in cash donations for the Red Cross, Salvation Army and local Houston charities, with several stations planning phone banks and donation drives in the coming days.
