Clearleap Hangs Out 'TV Everywhere' Shingle

Clearleap has moved into the "TV Everywhere" infrastructure space, announcing the ClearPlay Authentication service to let service providers connect their subscribers with major content provider portals.

Clearleap's competitors in the space include Synacor, and some operators have homegrown authentication solutions.

ClearPlay Authentication will go live in the next 45 to 60 days, said Bob Van Orden, Clearleap's vice president of product marketing.

Currently, the service is integrated with Adobe Pass, an authentication solution used by programmers and networks including NBCUniversal and Turner Broadcasting System's CNN, TBS, TNT, truTV and Cartoon Network. Clearleap said its system also is able to provide authentication services for HBO Go and MAX Go.

Clearleap also has struck a deal with the National Cable Television Cooperative, which has named the vendor an "approved provider" for authentication services to independent cable operator members.

The Clearleap TV Everywhere authentication service is priced on a pay-as-you-go model, charging only for active users rather than total number of subscribers, Van Orden said. The interest in the solution "is solid evidence of the growth of TV Everywhere and the trend toward authenticated services," he said.

Clearleap also provides video-streaming services under the ClearPlay brand, designed to deliver full linear TV lineups, local programming and VOD to web browsers, tablets and connected-TV apps. Van Orden noted that the ClearPlay Authentication offering is a standalone product, although it can be integrated with Clearleap's video streaming environment.
