Envivio Taps Inlet's Chief Architect Smith As VP Of Internet TV

Video-encoding equipment vendor Envivio has hired Matt Smith -- previously chief systems architect at Inlet Technologies, now part of Cisco Systems -- as vice president of Internet television.

In his role at Envivio, Smith will work with customers, technology partners and content delivery network providers to develop over-the-top strategies and solutions.

"We are seeing a significant increase in the demand for multiscreen TV headend solutions and some of the greatest innovation is occurring in the creation of new business models and services that take advantage of delivery over the Internet," Envivio president and CEO Julien Signès said in a statement.

Cisco in February 2011 announced the acquisition of privately held Inlet, a provider of adaptive-bit-rate video processing platforms, for $95 million.

Prior to Inlet, Smith was a key video architect and evangelist for Yahoo and spent several years with NBC, first at the affiliate level and later with the network.
