Sassa Finds Friendster

Former NBC Entertainment president Scott Sassa has been named CEO of online service Friendster Inc. (www.friendster.com).

Before NBC, Sassa spent nine years at Turner Broadcasting System Inc., exiting as president of Turner Entertainment Group, and he worked at Fox Broadcasting Co. before that.

Friendster board member and investor Tim Koogle said in a prepared statement: "Over the past several months, Friendster has been building the foundation for a strong advertising model, and we believe Scott will be instrumental in helping the company to develop a great business."Friendster claimed that more than 7 million people have joined it “to make new friends, communicate with existing friends, share information, organize activities, find dates and reconnect with lost friends.”

The company is privately owned, based in Mountain View, Calif., and backed by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Benchmark Capital, Battery Ventures and other investors.
