With the "Air" taken out of the mix, Turner Network Television saw household ratings erode by almost one-fourth for its coverage of the National Basketball Association’s All-Star Game.
The drama network averaged a 6.2 household rating for the game Sunday night, Feb. 15, according to Nielsen Media Research data. That marked a 24.4% decline from the 8.2 registered by last year’s contest (Feb. 9, 2003), which marked the last All-Star appearance by basketball icon Michael Jordan.
Despite the drop from the prior year’s affair, Sunday night’s game was the second-most-watched basketball game in basic-cable history, trailing only the 2003 All-Star Game, according to Turner Broadcasting System Inc. officials.
Moreover, it was the medium’s leading program in 2004 among households (5.25 million), persons 2+ (8.19 million), adults 18-34 (2.54 million), adults 18-49 (4.59 million) and adults 25-54 (4.35 million).
