CNN Snares Weekend Win

Cable News Network scored an atypical win over rival top-rated news network Fox News Channel this past weekend, according to officials.

During primetime Sunday, CNN attracted 1.1 million viewers compared with Fox News’ 632,000, according to Nielsen Media Research data supplied by CNN. In the 25-54 demographic, CNN also outgunned Fox News, averaging 302,000 compared with 186,000 for the News Corp. service.

Also, Monday’s Larry King Live tribute to the late Johnny Carson -- which featured guests Ed McMahon and Doc Severinsen -- averaged 2.5 million viewers. In comparison, Fox News’ Hannity & Colmes averaged 1.8 million viewers, while MSNBC’s special averaged 216,000 viewers.
