CTAM Live: A Message From The Mark Awards Chair11/09/2008 5:00 PM Eastern
As I sit here staring at a blank screen, looking for some prophetic words to introduce the 2008 Mark Award winners, I’m distracted by the reality of the current economic conditions flashing in the corner of my screen and airing on the TV in the background. Yes these are truly historic times for our economy that affect each and every one of us. How we manage, market and run our businesses moving forward can’t help but be influenced by this past month’s economic turn of events.
The optimistic side of me is encouraged to think about the positive changes that lie ahead. Challenging times have always fueled innovation, something that our industry is certainly no stranger to. That said, I fully expect to see new innovation around not only the products that our industry creates, but around how we market those products. Finding ways to efficiently and effectively reach our consumers will continue to have increased importance.
The Mark Awards is proudly celebrating its 25th year of honoring the industry’s best marketing. Those who’ve been around long enough to have participated in the Mark Awards over the years have seen their share of changes. One change worth pointing out is that in the beginning, the primary mission of the Mark Awards was to educate a young and emerging industry in its marketing efforts. And while education should always be part of the equation, the mission has evolved to that of honoring exemplary strategy and creative. Today, some of the best marketing in all of business is generated from our industry and for that we should be very proud.
Over the past 25 years, nearly 30,000 entries have been submitted generating just over 1,600 gold winners, an elite group to be sure. I would encourage you to look through the pages that follow as they represent this year’s winners. We are proud to honor 56 new gold winners and 116 new silver winners from over 900 total entries.
