FiOS Clips Digital Coupons

Want to save 75 cents on a box of Hamburger Helper? Look no further than Verizon's FiOS.

The telco is debuting a free, "three-screen" digital coupon service for FiOS TV, FiOS Internet and Verizon Wireless subscribers that offers more than $25 in monthly savings. The Spend Smart service is powered by Cellfire, a provider of electronic and mobile coupon solutions based in San Jose, Calif.

The coupons, which rotate every two weeks, cover a range of consumer products and can be used at more than 4,000 locations of more than 20 grocery chains nationwide, including ShopRite, Safeway and Kroger.

To register, customers must have a shopper's club or loyalty club card with a participating grocery store. Once they have registered, consumers can use coupons that are currently available for that retailer by presenting their loyalty cards at the register at checkout, and the discount is automatically applied to their bill.

On FiOS TV, a Spend Smart widget lets customers register their mobile phone number, year of birth, rewards card and ZIP code to set up an account and get digital coupons. Customers can also access Spend Smart coupons at www.vzspendsmart.com or from a Verizon Wireless phone under the Shopping channel. Whether a customer signs up on TV, online or mobile, the information is automatically synched with the other platforms allowing customers to access the coupons on each platform.

"General Mills sees the Spend Smart service as a way to extend our brand with consumers nationwide, especially to those accessing information and making buying decisions using digital tools and information," Joe Trimble, General Mills' manager of mobile couponing, said in a statement.
