6/25/2004 4:27 AM Eastern

ABC Family president Paul Lee officially began his tenure at the basic network June 21 amid a strong quarterly ratings performance.

Lee, formerly CEO of BBC America, inherits a network that has struggled to find its identity but recently experienced a spike in ratings. The network, currently in 87 million homes, posted a 0.8 primetime household rating during the March 29-June 20 period, up 33% over the 0.6 rating the network posted in the second quarter of 2003, according to Nielsen Media Research data.

ABC Family also posted a 33% increase in its key adult 18-34 and 18-49 demos.

Lee could not be reached for comment at press time.
