L&O, SAG Boost TNT for Week2/08/2005 9:34 AM Eastern
Led by the continued power of its Law & Order franchise and a strong showing from the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Turner Network Television was once again basic cable’s leading network in primetime last week.
The drama network posted a 2.2 household rating from Jan. 31-Feb. 6, according to a Disney-ABC Cable Networks Group analysis of Nielsen Media Research data, 0.3 points better than USA Network and Nick at Nite.
Cartoon Network was fourth for the week with a 1.7, ahead of the 1.6 recorded by Fox News Channel, which benefited from its coverage of President Bush’s State of the Union Address Feb. 2.
Lifetime Television and Disney Channel were next, each with a 1.5. Rounding out the top 10: TBS at a 1.4. Spike TV with a 1.2 and Sci Fi Channel -- bolstered by its all-original Friday-night lineup -- with a 1.1.
Gauged on a total-day basis, Nickelodeon held a substantial lead with a 1.9 household mark, 0.6 points ahead of TNT and Cartoon at 1.3 apiece. Lifetime and Disney followed, both with 1.0 averages.
Fox News held the top two spots for the week, with its analysis of the Bush address on Groundhog Day earning a 4.8 while the speech itself netted a 4.6.
TNT’s presentation of L&0 encores notched five places in the top 22, while its Feb. 4 coverage of the SAG Awards grabbed a piece of the 22nd spot with a 3.0 mark. The network announced a two-year renewal for the ceremony show last week.
