Motorola Taps Holobinko To Head Access Networks Strategy

Motorola's Mobile Devices and Home business has hired John Holobinko, formerly BigBand Networks' vice president of marketing, to head up strategy and business development for the Access Networks Solutions group.

Holobinko, who started at Motorola last month, is responsible for driving growth through partnerships and alliances as well as potential merger and acquisition opportunities. The Access Networks portfolio comprises cable modem termination systems, hybrid fiber-coax and fiber-to-the-home solutions, and other networking equipment.

"The opportunity to lead strategy and business development for Access Networks Solutions was an easy decision for me and now is a great time for innovation while leveraging Motorola's market strengths," Holobinko said in a statement. "I've worked before with Joe Cozzolino [senior vice president and general manager of Motorola Access Networks Solutions] earlier in my career and I am delighted to report into him at Motorola."

Holobinko has spent more than 25 years with video and networking vendors. At BigBand, he held various positions including general manager of the Cable IP Business Unit, vice president of product management and vice president of marketing.

A BigBand representative said the company currently is not seeking a replacement for Holobinko.

Prior to BigBand, Holobinko was president and CEO of VPI Systems, a provider of network optimization software for telco operators. He also was president and CEO of Aplion Networks, vice president of marketing and strategy for ADC Telecommunications' video broadband division and co-founder of American Lightwave Systems (acquired by ADC).
