NAB, Advocates Pan ‘People Meters’

The National Association of Broadcasters Friday joined several African-American and Hispanic groups in opposing the April 8 rollout of "Local People Meters" in New York by Nielsen Media Research.

The NAB’s TV Board and News Corp., along with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Hispanic Congressional Caucus, claimed that the LPM system will undercount minority audiences.

Nielsen -- which defended its LPM system and said it more accurately reflects viewing by African Americans and Hispanics -- will move forward with its New York deployment, as planned, spokesman Jack Loftus said.
