New Name for Keystone State Association5/18/2004 10:15 AM Eastern
Reflecting the growth of high-speed-Internet service and digital-television enhancements, the Pennsylvania Cable & Telecommunications Association has changed its name to the Broadband Cable Association of Pennsylvania.
The Harrisburg-based group represents more than 160 cable operators, programmers and equipment suppliers in the Keystone State.
To tout the moniker amendment, BCAP is promoting the industry through TV, radio and outdoor advertising in central Pennsylvania, with other markets throughout the state to follow.
Recognizing Pennsylvania as the birthplace of cable and the ongoing leader of new technology deployment, the media campaign and most association correspondence will carry the slogan, “First in Broadband ... The Future of Broadband.”
“It goes without saying that access to broadband cable and the deployment of high-speed-Internet, digital-video and voice services are priorities among consumers, businesses and policymakers throughout the state,” BCAP president Dan Tunnell said in a prepared statement.
“As the cable-television industry began and prospered within Pennsylvania’s borders, it is only natural that our rapid transition to high-speed broadband services also prospers here,” he added. “This landmark name change for one of the country’s first electronic-media organizations again positions Pennsylvania in the forefront in embracing an exciting and highly accepted technology.”
