Ratings Tiara for CMT

The 2006 Miss America Pageant, which aired live on Country Music Television Saturday from 8 p.m.-10 p.m. (EST/PST), drew a network record 3.1 million total viewers.

The pageant topped previous CMT record-holder The 2005 CMT Music Awards, which attracted 2.9 million viewers.

CMT also said it beat all other ad-supported cable networks in total viewers for the first time in its history during the event, and Saturday marked its highest-rated day since The 2005 CMT Music Awards in April.

“These standout ratings for CMT and the Miss America Pageant are just the beginning of a long and successful relationship," CMT vice president of original programming and development Paul Villadolid said in a prepared statement.

"The buzz and promotion surrounding the pageant were like no other in our history, and the ratings were a resounding victory for the network,” he added. “The Miss America Pageant surpassed our previous benchmark for success and ranks as CMT's most-watched program ever.”
