Status Quo for E! Pre-Emmy Fare

9/20/2004 7:25 AM Eastern

The cattiness and snide fashion remarks by the Rivers girls were replaced by more celebrity kiss-kiss and touts by Star Jones for her day job, The View, but the Nielsens were about the same for E! Entertainment Television’s Emmy Awards fare Sunday.

E!’s Live from the Red Carpet: The 2004 Emmy Awards Hosted by StarJones averaged a 1.92 household rating in metered markets from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Sept. 19, on par with the 2003 (also a 1.92) and 2002 (a 1.89) shows that were hosted by Joan Rivers and her daughter, Melissa.

According to E! officials, the show grew every quarter hour, peaking with a 2.43 mark from 7:45 p.m.-8 p.m. -- the period leading up to ABC’s presentation of the event.

In 2003, E!’s highest-rated pre-Emmy moment, a 2.27, occurred at 7 p.m., network officials said.

As for the network’s Countdown to the Red Carpet: The 2004 Emmy Awards, the six-hour show that concluded at 6 p.m. averaged a 0.52 mark, up 10% from a 0.47 the year before.
E! officials noted that the show’s top quarter hour was its last, when it rolled up a 0.91 average.
