FX Networks Buys 'Minions' Rights

FX Networks said its movie-buying binge now includes exclusive U.S. commercial-TV premiere rights to Minions, which scored the second-biggest opening weekend ever for an animated feature with $115 million in domestic box office revenue. FX Networks -- FX, FXX, FXM and the video-on-demand platform FX Now -- also bought rights to Ted 2 and Terminator Genisys; to Jurassic World; to Furious 7 and Pitch Perfect 2.

FX Networks also has licensed Taken 3, Kingsman: The Secret Service and Home.

The News Corp.-owned programming outfit said that in 2014 it licensed 67% of all of the year’s features that grossed more than $100 million at the box office.
