Sharknado 4 to Make Land on Syfy July 31

More proof that there is no such thing as overkill and that Sharknado 3 left so many unanswered questions: Syfy has announced that Sharknado 4, The 4th Awakens, will premiere on the network on July 31.

The Star Wars-inspired fourth installment of the horror series takes place five years after Sharknado 3, Oh Hell No! and once again stars Ian Ziering as Fin, slayer of Sharknados; Tara Reid as April, his chainsaw-apendaged wife who was about to be hit by a large chunk of space debris at the close of the last movie; and David Hasselhof as Gil, Fin’s father who apparently survived after being stranded on the moon. New cast members include Gary Busey as April’s father and former supermodel Cheryl Tiegs as Fin’s mother.

Syfy has said the outcome of a Twitter campaign launched at the end of Sharknado 3, allowing fans to decide April’s fate -- #April Lives or #April Dies – will be revealed at the premiere.

The Sharknado franchise, a social media phenomenon and an unexpected hit for the network when the original movie debuted in 2013, has shown some signs of fatigue. Although about 2.8 million viewers watched the premier of Sharknado 3, its 0.9 live-plus-same-day rating among adults 18-49 was 33% below Sharknado 2: The Second One, but higher than the original.
