Aurora Transmitter System Aims For DOCSIS 3.1High-Density System Includes Transmitters That Support Up To 1.2 GHz 3/24/2014 1:56 PM Eastern
Aurora Networks, the optical and access network supplier acquired by U.K.-based set-top maker Pace last year, said a new high-density transmitter system can help MSOs get ready for DOCSIS 3.1.
Its HT3300H Series Double-Density 1310 nm Transmitter System includes 1.2 GHz transmitters, meaning it can support the higher levels of the spectrum range envisioned by DOCSIS 3.1, a CableLabs spec that’s designed to support cable’s all-IP transition and capacities of up to 10 Gbps down and 2 Gbps upstream.
Most upgraded cable plant is built out to 860 MHz or 1 GHz. An expansion to 1.2 GHz would give MSOs some additional headroom to play with should they ever desire to boost the amount of spectrum that could be applied to the downstream or upstream.
Aurora said the new system, which doubles the number of transmitters per 3-rack unit-high chassis, could also be used to beef up the capacity used for HDTV and VOD services.
