Cablevision Launches HD Promotional Campaign

Tis the season to be promoting HD.

Cablevision Systems Corp. today launched a promotional campaign trumpeting the 44 high-definition channels it offers to its digital-cable customers in the New York metro area free of charge.

Via its “44 Days in HD, on iOTV” effort, the cable operator will salute a different HD service weekdays through the first week of February, minus Christmas and New Years Day. The networks will be spotlighted during the countdown through daily press releases, banners on iO TV’s guide on channel 14, and the Optimum.net consumer Web portal and other tactics.

A Cablevision spokesman said the initiative is being funded exclusively by Cablevision.

The first “Channel of the Day”: ESPN HD. Banners on the guide and the portal direct viewers to ESPN HD on channel 736, which, beginning this afternoon, features an array of NFL-oriented shows, leading up to its presentation of the Monday Night Football match-up between the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Falcons.

"We are pleased to honor ESPN HD as the very first Channel of the Day in our ‘44 Days in HD, on iO TV’ countdown," said John Trierweiler, Cablevision’s senior vice president of product management, in a statement. "ESPN HD is a terrific example of the quality and diversity of high-definition programming our iO TV customers enjoy."
