FCC Asks Comcast for Carriage Deal Details10/11/2010 12:01 AM Eastern
WASHINGTON — Comcast also now has an Oct. 18 deadline for a raft
of information on its business, including its carriage agreements
for Versus, Golf Channel and other affiliated networks.
The Federal Communications Commission last week made
a second round of information requests of both Comcast and
NBC Universal as it vets a proposed joint venture that would
join Comcast’s programming assets with the current NBCU, a
division of General Electric.
Comcast will be the majority owner of the new entity.
The FCC has given the companies only until Oct. 18 to provide
written and electronic documentation for each request. NBCU will
have the easier time, required to produce 10 items to Comcast’s 30.
The FCC wants to examine the two most recent carriage
agreements with other MSOs for networks in which it has a financial
interest, such as Golf or Versus. It’s also asking for Comcast’s its plans
to deploy broadband to served and unserved areas.
Also on the list of FCC must-haves are information on rate
changes and any changes in tier placement for networks it carries.
Comcast will make the Oct. 18 deadline, Fitzmaurice said.
