FiOS Piles on More TVE

Telco Adds 11 NBCU Nets, Pair from Starz to Offering 2/24/2013 7:00 PM Eastern

Verizon Communications added more dishes to the TV Everywhere buffet for FiOS TV subscribers, offering content from 11 NBCUniversal networks and Starz’s two branded TVE services.

The NBCU programming, available under a pact reached last fall between the two companies, includes shows from Bravo, USA, Oxygen, MSNBC, CNBC, NBC News, NBC, Syfy, mun2, Telemundo and Cozi TV. In addition, FiOS TV customers can access a live simulcast of CNBC. Next month, Verizon expects to “launch a few more NBCU networks,” according to spokeswoman Heather Wilner.

Verizon is the fourth Starz affiliate to get on board for Starz Play, which provides about 400 movies and original series episodes monthly, and Encore Play, with around 900 selections. Verizon already provided authenticated Starz content through its own website.

Starz has landed pacts for the “Play” services with DirecTV, Cox Communications and AT&T’s U-verse TV within the last four months. The programmer, which is playing catch-up to rival HBO in the authenticated-content arena, also has agreements with Comcast and Dish Network, which offer its authenticated content through their respective TV Everywhere services.

For NBCU, parent Comcast also offers its TV Everywhere content. The media company has TVE deals with Cablevision Systems and Suddenlink Communications.
