Fusion Staffs Up, Preps for December LaunchABC-Univision Joint Venture to Avoid Launch During Cluttered Fall 5/21/2013 11:27 AM Eastern
Fusion, the ABC News-Univision news and lifestyle cable channel, is now set to launch in late December, and not in the fall as was anticipated.
A December source makes “better strategic sense,” a source familiar with the situation told Hispanic Television Update.
The August-September period is a difficult time to gain traction because networks are rolling out their lineups for the new TV season and launching new shows, the source said. “November is sweeps.”
Fusion, which will be based in Miami, has been making some major appointments of late, including Eric Lieberman as VP and general counsel; and writer-producer Billy Kimball as senioor VP and chief programming officer.
The network also enlisted former Maritza Puello, former executive editor of Time Warner Cable’s NY1 Noticias channel in New York, as managing editor for Newscore, Fusion’s newsgathering operation.
The network has also appointed several anchors, including Alicia Mendez and Derrick Ashong.
Fusion’s CEO has not yet been named. Hiring and staff announcements have been made by interim CEO Beau Ferrari.
Fusion has not provided details on its programming and was only mentioned in passing at Univision’s upfront presentation May 14. Advertising sales and distribution agreements will be handled by Disney/ABC Television Group, while Univision will provide content.
