New York-A & E Network has hired veteran television and movie executive Allen Sabinson as its senior vice president of programming.

Since January of last year, Sabinson has served as a consultant to A & E Original Movies on projects such as Dash and Lilly, which was nominated for nine Emmy awards; The Crossing, A & E's most-watched original movie ever; and the upcoming The Great Gatsby, starring Mira Sorvino as Daisy Buchanan.

Sabinson fills the vacancy left when Michael Cascio exited A & E late last year to join NBC News as vice president of cable-programming development.

Before joining A & E, Sabinson was president of production for Miramax Films. Prior to that, he served as executive vice president of original programming for Turner Network Television, where during his 4½-year tenure he oversaw the development and production of the miniseries Gettysburg and George Wallace.

Sabinson was executive vice president for movies and miniseries at ABC before joining TNT.

His résumé also includes a three-year stint as senior vice president of original programming for Showtime.
