TNT Sinks Major PGA Championship Ratings Gains

Pro golfer Y.E. Yang wasn't the only big winner at last weekend's PGA Championship golf event.

Turner Sports posted significant on-air and online increases for its four day coverage of the tournament, which was won by Yang in a major upset over Tiger Woods. TNT, which aired exclusive coverage of the first two rounds of the PGA Championship and three hours of early third and final round coverage, averaged a 1.4 household rating and 1.8 million viewers over its four-day coverage, a 75% and 79% increase respectively over last year's tournament coverage. 

TNT also posted double-digit increases among adults 18-49 (571,000, up 88%) and men 18-49 (415,000), as well as triple digit gains among adults 25-54 (692,000, up 111%) and men 25-54 (500,000, up 103%), according to the network.

Turner Sports's coverage of the tournament on its operated PGA.com website set a record for the number of unique users with 1.4 million average daily uniques, a 94% increase from 2008. Also, the site generated a record 206 million page views for its four-day tournament coverage, a 68% increase from 2008, said the company.
