Antec: Calm Before Storm?

UBS Warburg analyst Anton Wahlman restated his "buy" rating on Antec Corp., speculating that the telecommunications-equipment maker could be a takeover target. In a July 2 report, Wahlman wrote that Motorola Inc. and Scientific-Atlanta Inc. would be logical buyers, especially after Antec completes its pending acquisition of Arris Interactive, which is expected in mid-July. Antec's 2002 price-to-earnings ratio is half that of S-A, providing "room for an acquisition premium as high as 100 percent," Wahlman pointed out. Antec closed at $13.01 on July 2, up 61 cents.
