Cablevision Systems has appointed former Yahoo exec David Dibble to the newly created post of chief technology officer, a role that will become effective in September.
Dibble, who will report to Cablevision CEO James Dolan, most recently served as advisor to the CEO at Yahoo, and previously was the company’s executive vice president of Central Technology.
In this new role at Cablevision, Dibble, 54, will head up be responsible for enhancing Cablevision’s technology infrastructure and implementing an enterprise-wide approach to data architecture, the company said. Dibble will also be tasked with managing Cablevision’s Corporate Engineering, Information Technology, Network Operations and Software teams, and oversee a wide range of systems, including customer service information systems, corporate financial systems, and business intelligence and more.
Dibble will play a key role in Cablevision’s WiFi strategy. Last week, the company announced it had deployed more than 1 million hotspots, a figure that includes installations in public areas and business locations, as well as via the lighting up of secondary "Optimum WiFi" SSIDs in home-side wireless DOCSIS gateways.
Cablevision said Wilt HIldenbrand, its long-time technology exec, will continue to serve as senior advisor for the company.
Dibble’s appointment comes about three months after it was announced that Yvette Kanouff, Cablevision’s former executive vice president of corporate engineering and technology, was leaving the MSO to take on a key post at Cisco Systems.She stayed on board with Cablevision through mid-July.

Before joining Yahoo, Dibble was CTO of First Data Corporation, a global electronic payment processing company. Prior to that, he held numerous senior technology positions at JPMorgan Chase & Co., Charles Schwab & Co., Fidelity Investments and FMC Corporation.
Dibble currently serves on the board of directors at Tribune Publishing Company and is an advisory board member at Elementum SCM, a Silicon Valley cloud-based supply chain upstart.
He is a graduate of the University of Kansas, where he earned his B.S. in quantitative economics and undertook three years of graduate studies in economics, mathematics, and computer science. He will be relocating to New York from the west coast in the coming weeks, Cablevision said.
