Cable One Wraps Retrans Deals

9/30/2005 6:05 AM Eastern

Cable One Inc. has completed the renewal of retransmission-consent agreements with the CBS and Fox TV-station affiliates in Joplin, Mo., officials said Friday.

The MSO has inked a three-year deal with KOAM and KFJX in Joplin, according to Tom Basinger, vice president of Cable One’s central division. As part of the new agreement, Cable One will begin carrying KOAM’s HDTV signal.

Sewing up the new pacts with KOAM and KFJX is a nice move strategically for Cable One, since it lost carriage of two Nexstar Broadcasting Group Inc. stations in Joplin nine month ago. In that retransmission-consent dispute, both Cable One and Cox Communications Inc. lost carriage of Nexstar stations in several markets earlier this year over the issue of cash for carriage.

In Joplin, Cable One had to take Nexstar’s ABC affiliate, KODE, and NBC affiliate, KSNF, off its lineup after failing to reach renewal of expired retransmission-consent deals.

With its new agreements with KOAM and KFJX, Cable One will continue to have stations offering local news and weather in Joplin.
